Getting brighter future thru DOLE-WODP Scholarship

“Life is short, make it count and meaningful.” This is the mantra of a humble yet hardworking employee and member of Stanfilco Kidapawan Employees’ Union (SKEU) of Dole Philippines-Stanfilco in Kidapawan City.

He is Menito O. Valenzona, Jr., a 37 year old father, a good husband and a modest individual who raises two children in the family, and most importantly, a recipient of Workers Organization Development Program-Scholarship for Educational Enhancement and Development (WODP-SEED).

He is employed in Dole-Stanfilco, North Cotabato Zone in Makilala since 2001 as a field worker. Promotion to a higher position was impossible for him because he lacked educational attainment. This situation motivated him to pursue further studies.

WODP-SEED opened doors for Menito in his quest for higher education. His scholarship started in June 7, 2016 and he enrolled at the Central Mindanao College in Kidapawan City with the course of Business Administration major in Human Resource Development Management (BA-HRDM).

As WODP scholar, the Department pays for his full tuition and miscellaneous fees with Php2,500.00 allowance per semester. And he never disappoints, Menito has been a consistent dean’s lister from school year 2016-2018. All of this goes along with his good performance in his company as Board of Director and lead-man of SKEU.

After hard work and persistence he finally finished his degree of BA-HRDM in Central Mindanao College in March 29, 2019.

He recommends to employee-members of union and those aspiring in advancing their education to search and to avail for educational opportunities in government agencies like DOLE. “I never lose sight of my goal to finish my education, despite of my age and work schedule,” said Valenzona.

“It is our duty to uplift the lives of our Filipino workers and WODP scholarship is just one of the programs in the department that could realized this,” said Regional Director Sisinio Cano.
