Families of victims of work-related deaths get EC benefits

In line with the continuing efforts to make Employees’ Compensation Program available to workers nationwide, the Employees’ Compensation Commission-Regional Extension Unit 12 (ECC-REU 12) administered office and home visits to the family of late Rod Mark Panoy and Ronelo Lumawag who both met a work-related death on July 23, 2019.

During the said visits, ECC-REU 12 regional staff explained the benefits to the families of the workers like Employees Compensation pension and the Php10,000.00 cash assistance.

Rod Mark was a 31-year old college teacher  of Green Valley College in Koronadal City. He met an accident  while going to a public terminal in June 20, 2019 where he would ride a bus going to his work. His motorcycle was accidentally hit by another motorcycle which resulted to severe injuries suffered by the said victim. Panoy was declared dead after 5 days of confinement in the hospital.

Meanwhile, Ronelo,  a permanent utility worker of the Provincial Government of South Cotabato was attacked and hacked with a bladed weapon by his co-employee in July 9, 2019 while on duty that resulted to his death.

“Malaki ang pasasalamat namin sa ECC sa pagbigagay alam sa amin na may pension at  cash assistance kaming matatanggap. Malaking tulong po ito sa amin at sana marami pa kayong maserbisyuhan at matulungan,” said Charity Lyn Panoy, sister of Rod Mark.

(We are thankful to ECC, knowing that we could received EC pension and cash assistance. This will really help us and we hope more workers will benefit from ECC programs and services.)

“Workers in the region should also know that DOLE does not only provide livelihood, employment facilitations, and workers assistance. We also have line or attached agencies like ECC ready to provide benefits in time of work-related contingencies,” said DOLE 12 Regional Director Sisinio Cano.

The ECC is an attached agency of DOLE which is mandated to provide benefits to  workers who become victims of work-related accidents, sickness, or death. It covers workers both from the government and private sectors. End/CDGamboa with reports from KDaga
