Gensan criminology student now a DOLE-WODP scholar

General Santos City, August 26 – A criminology student from this city is an added recipient of Isabelo Delos Reyes Scholarship Grant under the DOLE-Workers Organization Development Program (WODP).

This after Regional Director Raymundo Agravante led the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between the department, the union, and the scholar. Also present during the signing were Larry Dael, president of Pro-Labor CHAMP Movement-Makar-Sentro, and Michael Jords Castor, the beneficiary. Chief Fatima Quorayce Bataga (DOLE-General Santos City Field Office) and the parent of the scholar served as witnesses of the said event.

Castor, 22, is currently a fourth year BS Criminology student at Cronasia Foundation College in General Santos City. He wishes to finish his education despite the financial struggles his family is experiencing on top of this COVID-19 pandemic. He is the eldest in the family and has a younger sibling in high school. His mother is a full-time housewife while the father is working as a heavy-equipment operator at the South Cotabato Integrated Port Services, Incorporated and a union member of the Pro-Labor CHAMP Movement-Makar-Sentro.

“Daku jud ni nga tabang ang WODP scholarship kay graduating nako sa karon. Financially challenging pud ang pag eskwela karon nga new normal kaya pasalamat jud ko sa DOLE,” said Castor.

(The WODP scholarship is a huge relief since I am also a graduating student. This new normal is also financially challenging and I’m thankful to DOLE for this.)

RD Agravante encouraged the scholar to make his parents proud and to finish his studies so he can pay forward the goodness to other people. He likewise acknowledged the union president for facilitating the scholarship of the beneficiary.

The Isabelo delos Reyes Scholarship Grant is covered under Department Order No. 26, series of 2018 that provides scholarship for the chosen course/ program of the beneficiary up to its completion. The scholarship grant entitles the beneficiary a free tuition, miscellaneous fees, and stipend per semester. End/CDGamboa/SMDumalay
