168 Surallah informal workers now micro-entrepreneurship ready

Surallah, South Cotabato- A new group of beneficiaries from the informal sector is set to start an entrepreneurship, this after the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 12 through its South Cotabato Field Office (DOLE-SCFO) released kabuhayan starter kits amounting to P 2,456,935.00 to the Local Government Unit-Surallah, this province, on 10 November 2020.

Assistant Regional Director and Head of DOLE-SCFO Arlene R. Bisnon led the said turn-over of livelihood starter kits that will benefit one hundred sixty-eight (168) beneficiaries. Also present during the release were Vice Governor Vicente De Jesus, Vice Mayor Pinky Divinagracia, PESO Manager Leonardo Ballon, Senior LEO Gelse Lanzaderas, and barangay officials of the municipality of Surallah.

 

The beneficiaries chosen livelihood projects who were mostly self-employed with insufficient income, persons with disabilities, women, senior citizen, parents of child laborers, farmers, youth, and surfacing personalities involved in illegal drugs (SPID) who completed the community-based rehabilitation, were food vending, pig roasting (litsonero), coffee grinding, banana chips making, calamansi production, bread and pastry making, food processing, car wash, vulcanizing, hollow block making, nego- kart, dressmaking, party decoration, beauty and manicure services, among others.

 

In her message, ARD Bisnon acknowledged the strong linkage with LGU-Surallah in helping the skilled informal workers in creating livelihood opportunities especially to the SPID who will be returning to the socio-economic mainstream.

 

"Our challenge to all the beneficiaries is to make their chosen project a sustainable livelihood venture most especially to our SPID who will take advantage of the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) as a new opportunity to get a positive and fresher outlook in making their lives valuable to the community," added ARD Bisnon.

 

DILP is a flagship program of the DOLE which seeks to contribute to poverty reduction and reduce vulnerability to risks of the working poor, vulnerable and marginalized workers either through emergency employment, promotion of entrepreneurship and community enterprises. End/CDGamboa/GLanzaderas
