DOLE, Stakeholders Revisited Mangrove Reforestation Area in Gensan

2013 Labor Day was celebrated by the DOLE Region XII through the SARGEN Field Office  and representatives of Tripartite Industrial Peace Council and  Federation of Family Welfare Committees by revisiting  the area they planted with a hundred mangrove seedlings last year.

Minanga Reforestation Park located in  Buayan General Santos City is one of the coastal areas identified by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office for immediate rehabilitation. Mangroves are important to minimize the effects of global warming as they possess the ability to absorb pollution by maintaining water quality and clarity, filtering pollutants, and trapping sediments originating from land.

Two hundred mangrove seedlings were provided for free by the Local Government Unit of General Santos through the CENRO for  DOLE and its stakeholders for the Labor Day Tree Planting activity this year.  TIPC and FFWC members-companies who heed the call for this noteworthy undertaking by sending forty-one (41) representatives were the South Cotabato Integrated Ports Services, Inc., SOCOPA Security Agency, Silent Option Security Agency, Celebes Canning Corp., CCC Employees Union, SVM Motor Sales and Raha Manpower and Engineering Services.

Revisiting the area made us see that the take we made for mother nature last year was a success.  Abounding the area now are fully grown mangroves and hopefully with the 200 seedlings planted this year, 2014 Labor Day will see us with more inspired stakeholders affirming that we have done something great for the future generation.

The DOLE takes the lead in this endeavor in adherence to the Green our DOLE Program. (Apborela/DOLE SARGEN Field Office)
