Socot Women Inmates, Parolees Receive DOLE Livelihood Assistance for Fresh Start

Koronadal City – In time for the Women’s Month celebration, 49 women inmates of the South Cotabato Rehabilitation and Detention Center and 21 parolees of the South Cotabato Probation and Parole Office received their livelihood check worth P496,000.00 from the Department of Labor and Employment Region XII under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Kabuhayan Program.

During the turnover ceremony, OIC- Regional Director Albert E. Gutib expressed optimism that the women beneficiaries will not waste the opportunity given to them to have a fresh start for their families and be a part of nation-building.

“Our beneficiaries are also enrolled to the Government Service Insurance System Group Micro-Insurance for one year and we would expect that PESO-South Cotabato will provide the Kabuhayan  Starter Kits on April 2017,” OIC-Regional Director Gutib said.

On her part, South Cotabato PESO Manager Cynthia Barrientos urged beneficiaries to take the livelihood opportunity seriously.

“We want to help you change your lives for the better, please make a difference for your family,” Barrientos said.

In behalf of the women beneficiaries, Karen Canario, women inmate of the said detention center admitted that they were used to easy money and expressed her gratitude to the government for the chance given to them.

“Madamo gid nga salamat sa bulig nga ginhatag ninyo sa amon para mag-uswag ang amon panginabuhi upod ang amon pamilya, gintagaan niyo man kami sang oportunidad nga makatuon nga amligan ang kuwarta nga amon pinangabudlayan,” Canario said

Livelihood projects availed by the beneficiaries and was approved by DOLE XII include Kabuhayan Starter kits for Beauty care, Carenderia, Rice Cake Making, Beads making, Slipper Making,  Car Washing, Vulcanizing, and Ice Cream making.
