DOLE 12 utilizes 42M in SPES Funds during the 1st Semester

Koronadal City- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Region 12 utilized a total of more than 42 million out of the P52.3 million allocated for the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) funds for the 1st semester, this year.

In a summary work and financial report validated by the Bureau of Local Employment (BLE), Region 12 reported the highest allocation (P52.3 million) among the Mindanao regions and henceforth, posting 81.40 percent in utilization rate.

For DOLE Region 12, this could be a milestone accomplishment as it helped benefit more than 10, 375 beneficiaries from the different provinces and cities comprising the SOCCSKSARGEN region. DOLE 12 also recognized the significant contribution of employers in accommodating the SPES beneficiaries wherein government partners, particularly local government units (LGUs) employed 7,498 student-beneficiaries and the private sector engaged about 2,877 beneficiaries.

“To note that it’s our region who had one of the highest allocations and highest in Mindanao in terms of budget utilization is something to celebrate,” said Regional Director Sisinio B. Cano. He also appreciated the role of all SPES implementers in achieving the said accomplishment.

The SPES is an employment bridging program that aims to augment the family’s income of poor and deserving students, out-of-school-youths (OSYs) or dependents of displaced workers who intend to finish their education.
