Sec Bello witnesses signing of MOA in Dolephil regularization commitment

Polomolok, South Cotabato- DOLE Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III observed the signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on Hiring Commitment between Dole Phil Kaugnay and Dole Philippines, Inc. on 24 August, 2018 at Dole Phil Conference Room, this municipality.

The signing of MOA signals assurance among Dole Philippines employees that they will be protected of their rights and ensures them of their security of tenure to the said company. This is in response to President Rodrigo Duterte’s unrelenting fight to end contractualization in the country.

“Dole Philippines has an excellent record of corporate responsibility in working with the community and other Non-Government Organizations. Although we are facing competition in the global market, we will be in full compliance with what is stated in the MOA and we will regularized workers as stated in the MOA,” said Randy I. Fleming the Vice President and Managing Director of Dole Philippines. Fleming also added that workers will also undergo a screening and evaluation process.

Sec Bello was very positive in praising Dole Philippines, “I would like to congratulate the Dole Phil, Dole Kaugnay, and the union for their prudence in setting aside issues to finally come up with this MOA and to directly hire 4,173 workers in Polomolok cannery and 592 in Upper Valley operations in not later than one year from signing.” On top of this commitment, Dolephil had already regularized 1,962 workers in response to the DOLE’s compliance order.

Dole Kaugnay is the official Labor-Management Council mechanism of Dole Philippines, Inc. In 2015, Kaugnay was hailed as the winner in the National Search for Most Outstanding labor-management cooperation for industrial peace.

Secretary Bello was accompanied by Usec. Joel B. Maglunsod and Asec. Benjo Santos M. Benavidez while its regional counterpart is led by Regional Director Sisinio B. Cano, ARD Arlene R. Bisnon, and the rest of key officials of DOLE region 12.
