112 individuals avail of DOLE livelihood assistance in Gensan

Gen. Santos City- To help augment the income of the self-employed who had insufficient income and a number of displaced workers, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Region 12 released livelihood assistance in the form of starter kits amounting to Php 929,200 to 112 beneficiaries at the City Covered Court of Gen. Santos City, last September 27, 2018.


DOLE 12 Regional Director Sisinio B. Cano led the release of 404 sacks of rice together with DOLE-Gensan Field Office Head Fatima L. Bataga. Mayor Ronnel Rivera was also present during the said release.


The beneficiaries came from the 22 barangays of General Santos City and among those beneficiaries were 15 displaced workers of Coca-Cola FEMSA who availed of rice and grocery items for their sari-sari store projects.


“Your small business undertaking might provide opportunities to other people that eventually generate employment,” said Mayor Rivera.


“The department is committed in assisting all the beneficiaries in their business ventures by providing technical assistance for project enhancement and livelihood monitoring,” RD Cano said. He also added that prior to the release of starter kits, beneficiaries were given Orientation on DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) and lecture on Simple Bookkeeping


DOLE seeks to contribute to poverty reduction and reduce the vulnerability to risks of the working poor, vulnerable and marginalized workers either through emergency employment, promotion of entrepreneurship and community enterprises through its DILP program.
