Maasim, Sarangani Province- The Overseas Welfare Workers Administration (OWWA) 12 facilitated the release of P 10,000.00 cash aid of two (2) undocumented Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from General Santos City and in this municipality on 01 October 2020.

This after, OWWA 12 OIC-Regional Director Marilou Sumalinog and DOLE 12 Regional Director Raymundo Agravante personally handed over the check to OFWs Sharon Rose Romano and Melanie Cereno. Also present during the said turn-over was Jeanette Escaño, the OWWA-National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO) regional coordinator.

Romano and Cereno worked as household workers in Kuwait and both arrived in the country on April 2020 through Kuwait Amnesty Program. The said OFWs requested an assistance from Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello on September which immediately referred to RD Agravante.

OFWs received the assistance through Livelihood Development Assistance Program (LDAP) of OWWA-NRCO. LDAP is a package of livelihood support intended to provide immediate relief to returning displaced/distressed OFWs as a start-up or additional capital for livelihood project.

“Lisud jud ang pangabuhi karon kay naay pandemya, pero nalipay gid ko sa paspas nga aksyon sang DOLE kag tabang ka OWWA. Salamat man kay Secretary Bello,” said Cereno.

(Life now is very hard because of pandemic but I am happy for the response of DOLE and immediate assistance of OWWA. Thank you also to Secretary Bello.)

“We highly encourage everyone planning to work abroad to legally go out and get OWWA membership for their safety and benefits,” said RD Agravante.

OWWA is an attached agency of DOLE and a membership institution which has a mandate to protect and promote the welfare of OFWs and their dependents. End/CDGamboa
