General Santos City- A total of forty seven lucky jobseekers were Hired on the Spot (HOTS) in the recently concluded 2019 Labor Day Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) Job and Business Fairs held at KCC Mall Convention and Events Center, this city.

1,305 registered applicants tried their best in looking for a job and were still hopeful to be placed after submitting their applications to different participating employers or companies. This year 110 local and 22 overseas employers participated and screened qualified applicants to add with their respective company’s workforce.

DOLE 12 Regional Director Sisinio B. Cano, CESO III was all praises to the participating employers for the year’s first major job fair.

“We are really very grateful to the constant support of our partners in making this job fair a success and this gives an opportunity to our applicants to land a steady job,” RD Cano said.

In an update, TNK Learning Session of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 12 and Overseas Workers Welfare Adiministration (OWWA) 12 catered to a total of 64 participants. Meanwhile, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) 12 managed to served jobseekers in their free services such as haircut, massage, and pedicure/manicure. Some of the jobseekers were also able to witness the skills training on bartending and orientation on Defensive Driving.

Five lucky hired on the spots were also given a scholarship coupons from TESDA 12. The would be scholars will have the option to choose any trainings for free in any TESDA accredited schools in Region 12.

Moreover, DOLE 12 released a total of 5.5 million in livelihood assistance checks to the identified beneficiaries of Brgy. Government Unit (BGU)-Bula of Gen. Santos City (Php1,019,600.00), Stanfilco Makilala Labor Union (Php950,000.00), Local Government (LGU)-Pigcawayan (Php768,046.00), BGU-San Miguel of Arakan, Cotabato (Php925,710.00), and BGU-Bagacay of Alabel, Sarangani Province (Php816,274.00). Certificate of availment was also given to LGU-Pigcawayan (Php811,274.00) and Gensan Reserve Electrical Association (Php303,855.00).

Bagodatu Zacaria, a 31-year old college undergraduate, and one of the HOTS said that the Job Fair really helped him land a news job. Bagodatu resigned from his previous company in June 2018 but this year he will start as warehouse man with the NMG General Services, Inc.

“Maka happy gyud kay natigaan kog chance na makatrabaho paagi sini nga job fair,” said Bagodatu.

(It really makes me happy because I was given the chance to work again through this job fair.)

The 2019 Labor Day celebration, with the theme, Pagpupugay sa Mangagawang Pilipino, centers on recognizing and giving back to the Filipino workers for their hard work, perseverance, and contribution to the growth of our economy. It also highlights the continuous collective efforts of the government and the social partners in developing the country’s top resources and providing decent and productive employment for our Filipino workers.
