Pikit, Cotabato- A total of 245 tobacco farmers from Baranagys Balebak and Tinutulan, this municipality, availed of the DOLE-Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) program.

The project implementation is through DOLE-TUPAD #BKBK (Barangay Ko Bahay Ko) Disinfecting/Sanitation Project with source funding from DOLE Sin Tax while the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Pikit serves as accredited co-partner.

Qualified beneficiaries started to work from April 2 until April 16 (15 days) and shall receive the prevailing minimum wage pay amounting to a total of Php 4,890.00. Primary tasks of the beneficiaries under the program are disinfecting and cleaning their homes and surroundings which will be assisted by their Local Health Offices in ensuring health and safety of the workers.

DOLE 12 Regional Director Sisinio Cano commended the efforts of DOLE-North Cotabato Field Office and LGU-Pikit in fast-tracking the evaluation and submission of project proposal that made the implementation earlier than expected.

“We are grateful to our partner LGU-Pikit through its Public Employment Service Office for a quick work in this emergency situation. Rest assured that the workers’ salary is also available before work schedule is done,” added RD Cano.

Sin Tax Fund comes from the Republic Act 10357 or the Sin Tax Reform Law. The Department has a budget allocation of Php 1,420,000.00 in Region 12 for Fiscal Year 2020. End/CDGamboa
