Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat-In its bid to help augment the income of vulnerable sector workers in the province of Sultan Kudarat, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 12 facilitated the release of kabuhayan checks to the Barangay Government Unit (BGU) of Sumilil, this municipality and the City Government of Tacurong.
DOLE 12 Regional Director Raymundo Agravante personally handed-over the said checks amounting to P 996,625.00 for BGU-Sumilil that will benefit 72 beneficiaries and P 996,416 for 64 beneficiaries of Tacurong City. Also present during the release were DOLE-Sultan Kudarat Field Office (SKFO) officials, the respective chief executives and barangay officials of the said DOLE-Accredited Co-Partners (ACPs).
Beneficiaries, who were mostly self-employed women, persons with disabilities, drug surrenderers, and low-wage income earners will venture on livelihood projects like barber services, carpentry, vulcanizing, welding, furniture-making, wood carving, potter, bamboo craft, kakanin making, food vending, electrical services, hollow-block making, and vegetable gardening among others.
“Our daily wage earners compose a large portion of our labor force and right now, they are the ones who need bigger attention from the government”, Tacurong Mayor Roncal Montilla said. “I thank the DOLE for complementing us in delivering programs currently needed by our constituents”, he added.
“We are thankful for the prompt submission of livelihood proposals from our ACPs considering that this coordination from our partners is needed by the informal workers who are hardly hit by COVID-19 pandemic,” said RD Agravante.
DILP is a flagship program of the DOLE which seeks to contribute to poverty reduction and reduce vulnerability to risks of the working poor, vulnerable and marginalized workers either through emergency employment, promotion of entrepreneurship and community enterprises. End/CDGamboa
