An incoming nursing student and accountancy sophomore from Midsayap, Cotabato and Tampakan, South Cotabato, respectively, joined the roster of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 12-Workers’ Organization Development Program (WODP) scholars under the Isabelo Delos Reyes (IDR) Scholarship.
This after Regional Director Raymundo Agravante led the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between the Department, the union, and the scholars to officially seal the grant of the scholarship for the latter’s continuing tertiary education.
Also present during the signing were Michael Bautista, president of the Notre Dame of Midsayap College Faculty and Staff Association, Marvin Bala president of Lapanday Tampakan Employees Union-Workers Solidarity Network, DOLE-North Cotabato Provincial Director Marjorie Latoja, DOLE-South Cotabato Field Office Head Remily Oca, scholars Aquila Micah Salcedo (Midsayap) and Debbie Camposano (Tampakan), and parents of the scholarship grantees.
The DOLE-WODP scholars shall receive assistance on educational expenses which covers tuition and miscellaneous fees, and stipend on a semestral basis.
“I take this scholarship as a rare opportunity in my life. This is a huge relief for my family because nursing school is quite expensive, this is on top of the challenges posed by the pandemic. I could not thank DOLE enough for this chance,” said Salcedo.
In his message, RD Agravante encouraged the scholars to do well on their studies and to make their parents proud.
“Hindi lahat ay nabibigyan ng ganitong pagkakataon kaya galingan ninyo at maging modelo kayo sa mga kabataan lalung-lalo na ngayong panahon ng pandemya,” said RD Agravante.
WODP Scholarship is one of the programs of DOLE which serves as a mechanism in strengthening trade unions and other worker’s organizations. Under the IDR Scholarship, it extends its coverage to legitimate dependents of officers and members of locals/chapters of independent labor federations
