Lake Sebu, South Cotabato-In its bid to uplift the economic capabilities of indigenous people, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 12 through its South Cotabato Field Office (DOLE-SCFO) facilitated the distribution of livelihood starter kits to fifty-two (52) beneficiaries at Sitio Kibatang, this municipality, South Cotabato on 27 October 2020.

DOLE 12 Regional Director together with DOLE-SCFO Provincial Director Arlene Bisnon led the turn-over of P 606,782.00 DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program starter kits project for beneficiaries who were mostly farmers, indigenous people, former rebels, and parents of child laborers.

The said awarding of kabuhayan assistance is in partnership with the Provincial Government of South Cotabato, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, the Local Government Unit of Lake Sebu, Barangay Government Unit-Ned, and the Technical Skills and Development Authority 12.

The beneficiaries who were profiled during the Serbisyo Caravan on July 2020 at Sitio Blit, Barangay Ned in Lake Sebu will venture on micro-entrepreneurship like corn production, carpentry, beauty care, and food ambulant business.

“Sulit man ang pila namon sang profiling pag serbisyo caravan, nagpasimpalad gid ko na mag-abot ang bulig sang DOLE, salamat kay paspas ang pag-abot,” said beneficiary Nena Cortel.

(My sacrifice queuing during the service caravan was all worth it. I just believed that DOLE assistance will really be given to us and I’m grateful for the speedy processing.)

On the same date, DOLE 12 awarded the certificate of registration to Sitio Blit Farmers’ Association which in turn will give the association’s legal identity and the advantage of getting livelihood assistance or services from the government.

In his message, RD Agravante emphasized the importance of convergence of the national government instrumentalities and the local government units in reaching out with the farthest communities in the region.

“Previous conflicts have ended, our government’s war today is making you an independent individual armed with skills and livelihood capabilities that will make you a successful entrepreneur in your community,” added RD Agravante.

Sitio Blit in Barangay Ned, Lake Sebu is one of the identified threatened barangays under End Local Communist Armed Conflict and EO 70 to address the root cause of insurgencies and armed conflict by prioritizing and harmonizing the delivery of basic services and social development of the government.
