Cagayan De Oro City –The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 12 attended the Freedom of Information (FOI) Compliance Consultation and Workshop held at Chali Beach Resort Convention Center, this city on 12 November 2019.

The said consultation spearheaded by the Presidential Comuunications Operations Office (PCOO) of the Office of the President was specifically designed for the National Agencies, Government Owned and Controlled Corporations, State Universities and Colleges, and the Local Water Districts in Mindanao.

Mary Grace Pauya and Christopher Gamboa of DOLE 12, both FOI Receiving Officers (FRO) enjoined all other participants in getting the right information to improve their knowledge and capability building in  handling the job as FRO.

Topics discussed during the consultation presented by the PCOO officers were FOI Program Overview (Maria Danica Orcullo), FOI Reports as part of PBB Compliance (Carla Bianca Serut). Participants were also guided through a workshop in accessing FOI electronic portal and FOI assessment tool.

“We do this advocacy nationwide in order to capacitate FOI officers in their knowledge and skills in information disclosure, a much needed training to our partners in giving the right and truthful information to the public,” said Chief Darlene Mendoza of the PCOO’s FOI Monitoring Division.

Transparency, accountability, academic research, and innovations were some of the objectives of the FOI. It was created by virtue of the Executive Order No. 2, series of 2016 issued by President Rodrigo Duterte on 23 July 2016 with the purpose to operationalize the constitutional right of the Filipinos on the right to information on state policies and the full disclosure and transparency in the public service.
