The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) together with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) issued guidelines to assist private establishments that are allowed to operate during the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) and General Community Quarantine (GCQ) in developing the minimum health protocols and standards in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The said guidelines cover all workplaces, employers and workers in the private sector in which employers are required to provide necessary company policies for the prevention and control of COVID-19 in consultation with the workers.

Employers, through this guideline, are also directed to submit to DOLE regional offices the monthly reporting of illness, diseases and injuries utilizing the DOLE Work Accident/Illness Report Form (WAIR).

Workers are also obliged to comply with all workplace measures to ensure health and safety standards are followed like observing proper respiratory etiquette, hand washing and disinfection, and use of personal protective equipment.

“We are expecting that a great number of establishments in Region 12 will be on partial or full operation considering that our region is already in modified GCQ. This guideline will ensure full protection of both employers and workers from COVID-19 threat including the buying customers,” RD Sisinio Cano said.

DOLE and DTI interim guidelines on workplace prevention and control of COVID-19 was created after the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases recommended different government agencies to provide policy directions for public stakeholders in complying with government regulations following the modification of ECQ.
