Gen. Santos City- Following the mandate of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to address employment concerns, the Guidance and Career Advocates’ Network of (GCAN) General Santos City gathered its officers and members on June 21, 2019 at Sydney Hotel, this city for a learning session on various topics.

More than fifty guidance counselors and career advocates participated in the half-day learning activities conducted by DOLE-Gen. Santos City Field Office. The said learning session was made to arm the guidance counselors and advocates on the recent Labor Market Information and the behaviors of the new generation following the graduation of students from the Senior High School.

The first topic was Millenials at Work which was delivered by the guidance director and Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Manager of Notre Dame of Dadiangas University (NDDU), Ms. Jasmine de Guzaman-Ponciano. The second topic, Trend in Career Counseling in the Public School, was given by Junrey Villa the guidance counselor of Lagao National High School.

During the said learning session, guidance and career advocates were able to understand the gaps and differences between generations and the several factors that affect the behaviors that are instilled in each generation.

“Guidance counselors and career advocates in schools are our strong partners in building and making our K12 graduates character-ready in case they choose to apply for work after graduation,” said Regional Director Sisinio Cano.

The activity ended with the election of new set of officers. Mr. Junrey Villa and Ms. Josephine de Castro were elected president and vice president of GCAN, respectively.End/SMDumalay
