Gen. Santos City- No less than the Assistant Secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) graced the first ever Family Welfare Committees Regional Convention spearheaded by the SOCCSKSARGEN Federation of Family Welfare Committees, Inc. (SFFWCI) in coordination with DOLE Region 12.
Held on February 28, 2019 at Phela Grande Hotel and Convention Center, this City, the first ever convention gathered a total of 317 participants coming from the four provinces and five cities of Region 12.
In his keynote message, Assistant Secretary Federico Abuan emphasized the core reasons in advocating the department’s Family Welfare Program – the promotion of reproductive health and responsible parenthood.
“If workers are comfortable and healthy, they will become more productive,” added ASec Abuan. Further ASec Abuan encouraged all DOLE regional offices in using the 5% of the annual budget of the Gender and Development (GAD) Program as stated in Section 7 of Department Order No. 56-03: Rationalizing the Implementation of Family Welfare Program in DOLE.
“I commend the efforts of the officers of SFFWCI and the support of your employers in making this activity extra successful. This could also be an indication that the implementation of Family Welfare Program in Region 12 is among the best in the country,” said DOLE 12 Regional Director Sisinio Cano.
Learning sessions during the convention include topics on Drug-Free Workplace, Employees’ Compensation Program, Reproductive Health Program, and Salient Features of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Law were also discussed during the convention.
The program ended with a strong statement of commitment and alliance of members and officers of SFFWCI to uphold the objectives of DOLE-Family Welfare Program in Region 12 through their Convention Declarations.
