Makilala, Cotabato Province- The Employees’ Compensation Commission – Regional Extension Unit XII (ECC-REU XII) conducted a Quick Response Program (QRP) home-visit to Erlinda Ajero at Brgy. Rodero, this municipality, on 14 January 2020.

Erlinda Ajero, a 61-year old teacher of Rodero Day Care Center, was one of the victims of earthquake that hit South-Central Mindanao in October 2019.

It was during the Magnitude 6.6 earthquake in Cotabato when teacher Ajero acted as human shield to protect her pupils from falling debris which resulted to injuries. She sustained severe wounds on her head when she tried to rescue one pupil left in the classroom.

The ECC-REU XII regional staff visited Ajero and explained the Employees’ Compensation Program and the benefits of workers who became victims of work-related contingencies.

“Kahit alam kong delikado at pwede kong ikapahamak, sinalba ko pa rin ang mga bata. Pasalamat pa rin ako dahil may ECC na handing tumulong sa mga nainjured dahil sa pagtatrabaho,” said Ajero.

(I know what I did was dangerous, still I have to save the children. I’m still thankful to government agency like ECC who is ready to help workers who become victims of work-related injuries.)

“DOLE ensures safety in the workplace through our regular inspections and advocacy programs but in the event workers suffered from work-related contingencies, ECC can help them avail additional benefits,” said DOLE 12 Regional Director Sisinio Cano

The ECC is an attached agency of DOLE which provides immediate help to workers who suffer from work – connected contingencies, or their families who have to deal with work accidents or sudden onset of occupational disease or death, in the form of psycho-social counseling, and assistance in the filing of Employees Compensation claim.End/KDaga/CDGamboa
