The Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) provided cash benefits to eighteen (18) Persons with Work-Related (PWRD) beneficiaries in the SOCSKSARGEN Region from January-August of 2020.

Of these beneficiaries, 11 PWRDs received a total of P220,000.00 worth of livelihood starter kits, 7 beneficiaries were granted with P48,000.00 of travel and meal allowance who availed of the physical and occupational therapy provision of Katulong at Gabay sa Manggagawang may Kapansanan (KaGaBay) Program of ECC.

Among the beneficiaries were public school teacher, PNP and AFP personnel, agricultural technologist, mechanic, machine operator, stockman, welder, maintenance worker, clinical pharmacist, rigger man, seamen, and chief cook who met a work-related injury in their workplaces.

Under the KaGabay Program of ECC, government and private employees who became physically impaired due to a work-related sickness or injury, can receive a livelihood or entrepreneurship training in order to equip them in actualizing their chosen business. Beneficiaries of this program receive a livelihood starter kits worth Php 20,000.00 and may receive an additional of Php 10,000.00 as complementary kits if the livelihood is sustained after a year.

Moreover, the persons with work-related disabilities (PWRDs) who were amputated or lost function of a body part can receive additional support through the physical restoration services of ECC. Free physical, speech or occupational therapy sessions, as well as assistive devices like prosthesis, wheelchairs, crutches, and hearing aids, are given according to their needs. They are also provided with travel and meal allowance of Php 500.00 per day.

“It is the ECC’s moral obligation to give rightful and appropriate benefits to the PWRDs who suffered after having work-connected injuries. It is also our commitment to help them reintegrate in the economic mainstream to make them feel productive again,” said ECC’s Executive Director Stella Zipagan-Banawis.

The ECC is an attached agency of the Department of Labor and Employment for policy coordination and guidance. ECC is mandated to provide a package of benefits for public and private sector employees and their dependents in the event of work-connected contingencies such as sickness, injury, disability or death.
