In continuing efforts to provide aid to Filipino workers who met work-related sickness or injuries, the Employee’s Compensation Commission (ECC), through its Regional Extension Unit in Region XII, brought inspiration to another batch of person with work-related disabilities (PWRDs) who started new business ventures through the ECC Kagabay Program.
In partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry XII – Negosyo Center, the beneficiaries, namely, Feil Bailo, Xerxis Tabuada, Dadly Wyne Rodriguez, RoshelynFrediles, Roger Sulanting and MedrinMasamloc attended a training session on Entrepreneurial Mindsetting and Financial Literacy before they received the livelihood starter kits worth Php 20,000.00 from ECC.
During the training, the PWRDs were tasked to create their own business plan and were also taught on how to handle and make business work.
Livelihood being made available to PWRDs were rice retailing businesses, hog raising to, buy-and-sell fish, barbecue business, sari-sari store, and cellphone load retailing. Beneficiaries could received an additional complimentary kit worth Php 10,000.00 if they sustain the livelihood business given to them.
“Masaya ako dahil sa pamamagitan ng ECC, nagkaroon ako ng katuwang sa panahon na ako ay nagpapagaling mula sa aking kapansanan,” Masamloc said.

ECC Executive Director Stella-Banawis extended her admiration to PWRDs beneficiaries saying, “It always feels fulfilling each time we see them learn and acquire new skills through our KaGabay Program because this way, we bring impact to their lives.”
The Kagabay Program stands for “Katulong at GabaysaManggagawang may Kapansanan.” It is a special economic assistance program for Persons with Work- Related Disability (PWRD) who lost employment by reason of work related sickness or injury to facilitate their re-integration into the economic mainstream and to provide them with equal access to livelihood opportunities.
