Sunshine L. Sawan, 22 years of age, is a T’boli-B’laan girl from a poor family in T’boli, South Cotabato.  Shine, as she is fondly called, once dreamt to finish her studies and get a decent job, and she made it!

Despite of the financial status of their family, Shine still managed to obtain her degree in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Marketing last April 8, 2019 with the help of her scholarship from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

As a fresh graduate, Shine feared that she might not easily get a job due to the massive influx of graduates and due to lack of experience. Fortunately, on July 7, 2019, she was hired as a Government Internship Program (GIP) beneficiary.

“I feel so blessed with the opportunity that GIP has offered to me. In a span of six months, I have learned a lot of things. The program exposed me to the real world of work and the experience it provided me even triggered my desire of becoming a public servant” said Shine.

After her internship, she felt the need to find a new job to support her family’s financial needs. Triggered by the desire of becoming a public servant, she tried her luck and submitted her applications to different government agencies and institutions.

Guided by the grace of the almighty God,
Shine finally found a job in the public sector on February 3, 2020. She was employed as an Administrative Assistant (Job Order position) in the Local Government Unit of T’boli, South Cotabato. In an interview with her, Shine said “Bitbit ko pa rin ang aking mga natutunan mula sa programang GIP hanggang ngayon.”.

Shine was so thankful to DOLE 12 for giving her an opportunity to experience the real world of work through the GIP when she was still a fresh graduate and innocent to labor market. She further thanked DOLE for opening her eyes to the pleasure of becoming a public servant and for molding her desire to become one. According to her, “Today, I may not be considered as a real government employee because I am still on a job order status, but I believe that someday, I can really enter the realm of government service and serve the people at my best. I will forever bear in my heart the desire to serve the people”. End/KBPAbordo
