Norala, South Cotabato- DOLE Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III  personally facilitated the release of compensation benefits of the slained Overseas Filipino Worker Jeanelyn Villavende at Brgy. Tinago, Norala, South Cotabato on 10 January 2020.

Villavende’s family received Php 200,000 social benefits, Php 20,000 burial, Php 10,000 financial assistance, and Php 5,000 scholarship benefits from Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration through LabSec Bello.

As member of OWWA, Villavende through her family was also  awarded with USD 15,000 of insurance coverage from her insurance company.

“More than any financial benefit we gave to her family, we would like to assure everyone that justice on her untimely death in the hands of her employer is DOLE’s top priority,” LabSec Bello said.

Bello also held a press conference fopr SOCCSKSARGEN local media to give light and update the public on Villavende’s case. The secretary also pointed out that partial ban on household workers in Kuwait is in place but he is still awaiting for autopsy report of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and may issue a total ban of OFW deployment in the said country.

Bello added that the license of recruitment agency of Villavende has now been suspended.

The late OFW Villavende was slained in Kuwait on December 28, 2019 by her employer, one of the recent cases of household workers being killed abroad.
