Isulan, Sultan Kudarat- In its bid to strengthen unionism and workers’ organizations, the DOLE-Sultan Kudarat Field Office (SKFO) spearheaded the conduct of the Workers Organization Development Program (WODP) training at Carlitos Hotel, this municipality, Sultan Kudarat province on 05 May 2021.

Thirty participants (30) from five rural workers associations in the province attended the said training purposely to capacitate members of the associations on various DOLE programs and services especially the scholarship grants for union officers and its members and dependents.

Topics include programs on Rural Workers Association, WODP Coverage and Scholarship Grants, Single Entry Approach, Labor and Human Relations, Productivity and Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Informal Sector. The Employees Compensation Commission-Regional Extension Unit 12 also discussed the Orientation on Employees Compensation Program.

Under the WODP, union officers and members can avail of the scholarship which covers free short term to masteral courses. Qualified beneficiaries can enjoy free tuition and miscellaneous fees and monthly stipend to help them while taking their desired courses.

Further, dependents of union officers and members are also qualified to apply for vocational or tertiary educational assistance through the Isabelo Delos Reyes component of the WODP.

In his message, Regional Director Raymundo Agravante encouraged the workers’ group to avail of the scholarship program and promised to give additional slots for Sultan Kudarat province.

 “Since 1980s, the DOLE has extended WODP provisions to empower unionism and other workers’ organization including their dependents. The Department offers greater productivity, prosperity, and welfare to groups that resulted to sound labor-management cooperation,” added RD Agravante.

The WODP is one of the flagship programs of the DOLE for workers’ groups which serves as a facilitating mechanism in strengthening trade unions and other workers’ organizations. It provides educational opportunities to union officers and members, including their dependents, and offers greater productivity, prosperity, and welfare to the employer and workers’ organization.
